Background
Clive's journey at sea began at the age of 17, not in a classroom, but on the rugged Turkish coastline. Working as a deckhand and diver on small fishing boats, he earned a reputation as a fearless “kamikaze diver,” harvesting the day’s catch and selling it directly to luxury yachts anchored in quiet bays.
One encounter would change everything. An Australian captain, impressed by his work ethic and attitude, offered him the chance to work aboard his yacht during visits to Turkey. That opportunity turned into two years of hands-on experience — and marked the true beginning of Clive’s career in yachting.
By his mid-twenties, Clive had completed his Navy service, graduated from Istanbul University with an Associate’s Degree in Underwater Technology, and qualified as a commercial diver and underwater technologist. His early career built a strong technical foundation that would later define his practical and hands-on leadership style.
At 30, he became a New Zealand citizen and earned his Inshore Launch Master licence. During this period, he experienced the energy of the America’s Cup in New Zealand, an influence that deepened his passion for professional seamanship and high-performance marine operations. From there, his career evolved into a global pathway, working Mediterranean summers on yachts, and taking on seasonal roles across New Zealand, Australia, and the UAE during the winter months.
In 2018, Clive stepped into full-time command on a luxury motor yacht in Europe, a 92’ Mangusta powered by twin 2000hp MTU engines. In this role, he combined navigation, crew leadership, and full vessel management with hands-on engineering responsibility, ensuring the yacht was maintained to the highest standard at all times. His experience includes extensive shipyard and dry dock periods, where he managed refit projects, coordinated contractors, and delivered works on time and within budget.
Throughout his career, he has been responsible for preparing yachts and crews for charter operations, maintaining compliance with flag state and class requirements, and ensuring operational excellence through strong organisation, reporting, and time management. His dual capability in both deck and engineering allows him to approach problems practically and efficiently, particularly under pressure.
In 2024, Clive relocated to Australia to further advance his qualifications, completing a Maritime Operations program in Perth and obtaining his OOW Unlimited certification in 2025. He is currently progressing toward higher command certification while actively seeking his next long-term opportunity.
Having lived and worked extensively in Europe, including three years based in Italy, Clive is comfortable operating in international environments and is currently refreshing his Italian language skills to full professional fluency.
As a captain, engineer, and former commercial diver, Clive brings a rare combination of experience, resilience, and technical understanding. He is known for his calm leadership, strong work ethic, and absolute commitment to the vessel, crew, and owner.
He considers himself an autodidact, continuously learning, improving, and refining his skills throughout his career.
Those who work with him can expect professionalism, loyalty, and a captain who leads from the front.
